Britannia Heritage Shipyard National Historic Site, Richmond, Canada

The Britannia Heritage Shipyard building is the oldest remaining on the Fraser River and was built as a salmon processing plant in 1889. Later it became a shipyard to service the burgeoning coastal fishing fleet. Now restored, it pays tribute to the shipbuilding and fishing industry of the area. Visitors can observe the restoration of old boats and ships using traditional methods. The visitors centre focuses on the multi-cultural origins of the many who worked and lived in the area including the Japanese-Canadian owners of the shipyard.
