D'Arcy Island Marine Park

Used as a leprosy colony for 30 years beginning in 1894, there is now a plaque commemorating the men sent to D'Arcy Island. In total, 49 men-48 of whom were Chinese-were sent here and ruins of the colony are still visible. The island is now a marine park used for picnics, camping, fishing, kayaking and snorkelling. It is part of the Gulf Island National Park Reserve.
