Erie Canal, , NY


The Erie Canal was officially opened in 1825 and stretches 363 miles. The creation of the canal spurred the first great westward movement of American settlers, gave access to the land and resources west of the Appalachians and made New York a major commercial city. The canal runs from Lake Erie to Albany, New York.
