Lava Beds National Monument, Tulelake, CA
This incredibly landscape has been created by volcanic eruptions. The Modoc Indians used the lava to their advantage in holding of the US Army forces. Camping is permitted in the park for a minimal fee. The purpose of the monument is to preserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of the lava beds.
