McCune Sand Prairie, , IL


Situated on 200 acres (80 ha) of land, the McCune Sand Prairie near Mineral offers visitors a example of the good and bad human use of these rare areas. Parts of the park has been overextended and many plants can no longer survive. In other areas prickly pear cacti, grasses, flowers and trees can be found growing from the sand. Trails for hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter wind through the prairie for public use.
