Mound City National Monument and Cemetery, Mound City, IL


The area that now harbors the Mound City National Cemetery was the home of naval shipyards that supplied warships to the Union's Mississippi Squadron during the Civil War. The site features a marble and concrete monument paying hommage to 2,637 soldiers and sailors who died during the Civil War.
