Mount Massive, Leadville, CO

Only 12 ft (3.7 m) shorter than Mount Elbert, Mount Massive reaches 14,421 ft (4396 m) in height, making it the third highest peak in the USA and the second highest in Colorado. Popular activities enjoyed on the mountain are hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, mountaineering and camping. It is located near Leadville, Aspen and Twin Lakes, south of Mount Elbert. Directions: Go south on the US 24 from Leadville for 3.6 m (5.75 km) and go west on Colorado 300. Turn south on Lake County 11 and then after 1.8 mi (2.9 km) turn right on a dirt road marked Halfmoon Creek. Follow for 7 mi (11 km) to the Mount Massive Trailhead parking area.
