The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis, IN
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway track and grounds have undergone many changes over the years. Constructed in 1909, the original surface of the track was made of crushed stones and tar; it was later covered with paving bricks. The surface has been paved and re-paved many times, but the original bricks still lie underneath. The track is 2 1/2 miles in length. Two motor races are featured on the track annually: the Indianapolis 500 and the Bricktown 400. Also located at the Speedway is the 'Indianapolis 500 Hall of Fame Museum'. Tours of the track may be arranged when it is not in use.
